PowerOn Program Coordinator

Overview                                                                                                                                               

LGBT Tech is the nation’s premier nonprofit organization working at the intersection of the LGBTQIA+ community and technology to bridge the technology gap for all LGBTQ+ individuals. Grounded in research, LGBT Tech develops policy recommendations, resources, and programs to close the digital divide.

 

The PowerOn Program Coordinator works to ensure the continued success of PowerOn and other current and future programs by working closely with the team on grant administration and distribution, program communications, events, website updates, and other program operation tasks. 

 

PowerOn is built on the foundation that digital rights are human rights, and our mission is to bridge the digital gap in the LGBTQ+ community. We provide technology, resources for internet access, and connection to vital information, research, and advocacy to both LGBTQ+ organizations and individual community members. We empower the LGBTQ+ community to transform their lives through technology.

 

Responsibilities                                                                                                                                              

This position serves as the main point of contact internally and externally for the PowerOn Program. Responsibilities include overseeing annual grant cycles, program communications, and program expenses, and coordinating regular program activities and all day-to-day needs of PowerOn. This position reports to LGBT Tech’s Director of Programs and works extensively with the programs team to ensure the success of PowerOn as well as the programs department as a whole. 

 

The role includes facilitating two or more large grant cycles annually, encompassing preparation, launch, evaluation, award, and reporting phases. Key grant-related duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing relationships with PowerOn applicants, grantees, and partner LGBTQ+ centers

  • Coordinating grant-related communications, decision-making, and technology distribution

  • Leading virtual training sessions on PowerOn processes and participating in outreach activities

  • Overseeing logistics for technology storage, refurbishment, and distribution

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the planning and execution of the annual PowerOn event

  • Responding to inquiries about LGBT Tech’s programs

  • Collaborating with the communications team on strategies, blog content, and website updates

  • Managing online forms and reporting tools

  • Assisting in grant applications, reporting, and annual impact reports

  • Researching funding and outreach opportunities

  • Providing support to other LGBT Tech programs as needed, including PATHS and Digital Navigator

 

Qualifications                                                                                                                                       

Required skills and qualifications

  • A total of four to six years’ relevant experience (including work experience, volunteer work, or a Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Social Sciences, Communications, English, Journalism or similar concentration)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail

  • Strong time-management and organizational skills

  • Proficient with general computer skills and software, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Slack, Canva, and Zoom

  • Written and spoken fluency in English

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, cultural competency, and a commitment to and passion for serving the LGBTQ+ community

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently without close supervision

 

Preferred (but not required) skills and experience 

  • Knowledge of, or experience working with, the LGBTQ+ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ+ people

  • Working knowledge of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

  • Experience in nonprofit work, including grant application and reporting

  • Experience working with diverse populations

  • Experience working with marginalized communities

  • Ability to speak/read/write/translate in one or more languages other than English

 

Schedule, Location, and Compensation                                                                                              

  • Regular schedule is Monday through Friday. Exact hours are negotiable depending on the successful candidate’s location of residence. This position includes occasional evening or weekend hours and occasional travel.

  • This is a remote/telework position and applicant must be authorized to work in the United States

  • This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position paying $50,000 annually
