28 Organizations Call on Congress to Oppose KOSA

At LGBT Tech, we appreciate the commitment of policymakers to address the safety of minors online. However, we remain deeply concerned about the implications of the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA). This bill poses significant risks to critical access to information, particularly content related to reproductive healthcare, LGBTQ+ identities, and the history of marginalized communities.

While there have been discussions about proposed language changes to address these concerns, their potential impact remains unclear. Our concerns are heightened by the possibility of misuse under a future administration, which could manipulate the law’s implementation to censor valuable and life-saving information.

Creating safer online spaces for young people is essential, but those efforts must not come at the expense of limiting access to information that is crucial for their growth, understanding, and well-being. This week, LGBT Tech shared a letter detailing these considerations, on behalf of LGBT Tech and 27 other similarly affected organizations, to Congressional leadership.

Together, we urge Congress to oppose KOSA in its current form and prioritize solutions that truly balance safety with the need for inclusive and equitable access to online resources.
