LGBT Tech at Creating Change 2025 in Las Vegas, NV

Writer: Tatyana IthierTatyana Ithier

LGBT Tech’s team just wrapped up an inspiring and impactful week at the Creating Change Conference 2025 in Las Vegas, NV! Hosted by the National LGBTQ+ Task Force, this annual gathering brought together LGBTQ+ leaders, advocates, and organizations from across the globe to collaborate, learn, and drive change.

As exhibitors, we had the incredible opportunity to engage with dozens of LGBTQ+ organizations and individuals, sharing insights and resources on our PowerOn Community and Individual Tech Grants, our PATHS STEAM Mentorship Program and LGBTQ+ in STEAM Interviews, our upcoming Digital Navigator program, and also connected with attendees about critical digital rights and inclusion efforts shaping the future of our community.

Spotlight on Digital Literacy

One of the highlights of our booth this year was our interactive digital literacy survey, where attendees voted on the most pressing digital literacy issues for LGBTQ+ communities. Using virtual stickers (because who doesn’t love stickers?), participants weighed in on topics like:

  • Understanding & protecting your data

  • Spotting & combatting misinformation & propaganda

  • Online safety: Strong passwords, phishing scams, privacy settings, & secure device/app usage

It was incredible to see attendees engage with this conversation, highlighting how digital literacy remains a critical issue for LGBTQ+ individuals navigating an increasingly complex online world.

Digital Safety & Cybersecurity

One resounding theme throughout the conference was the growing concern over digital safety and cybersecurity. Attendees were eager to learn how to better protect their data, secure their online identities, and defend against cyber threats that disproportionately impact LGBTQ+ individuals. Conversations at our booth focused on:

  • How to safeguard personal data from social media tracking, phishing scams, and cyberattacks.

  • Privacy best practices for LGBTQ+ individuals facing online harassment or surveillance.

  • Ways to recognize and combat misinformation targeting LGBTQ+ communities.

  • Resources for digital self-defense, including encrypted messaging, secure browsing, and stronger password habits.

With increasing threats to online privacy and safety, our work in digital literacy, cybersecurity education, and policy advocacy is more essential than ever. LGBTQ+ individuals deserve access to tools and knowledge that empower them to navigate digital spaces safely and securely.
