LGBT Tech is thrilled to announce it has received a grant from Ciena. This grant will significantly impact LGBT Tech’s efforts to bridge the digital divide through its PowerOn program, which provides crucial technology access to LGBTQ+ individuals and organizations. The funding will support a range of initiatives aimed at improving digital access, safety, and education for the LGBTQ+ community.
Through Ciena’s grant, LGBT Tech will provide vital technology resources, including laptops, smartphones, and tablets, to LGBTQ+ individuals in need and LGBTQ+ organizations. These resources will empower LGBTQ+ centers to better serve community members and offer crucial digital tools and services. The grant will also enhance LGBT Tech’s educational outreach by supporting the development of a Digital Safety and Skills Resource Hub, a Cyber Safety Planning Guide, and an inclusive certification course on digital equity.
“We are honored to receive Ciena’s support for our work in building digital inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community. At LGBT Tech, we take a holistic approach to addressing barriers to digital inclusion, and Ciena’s support will span across our programs, empowering us to provide valuable opportunities and resources across our community,” said Kristen Kelley (she/they), Director of Programs at LGBT Tech.
Additionally, the grant will support scholarships for LGBTQ+ students pursuing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education. This funding will expand opportunities within LGBT Tech’s PATHS Mentorship Program, helping to increase the representation and support of LGBTQ+ professionals in STEAM fields.
LGBT Tech’s work extends beyond technology access by addressing online safety, skills development, and digital equity. The PowerOn program has already reached over 107 centers across 37 U.S. states, impacting thousands of lives by providing direct access to the technology needed to connect with vital resources, education, and community networks.
Ciena’s dedication to advancing digital inclusion complements LGBT Tech’s goal of fostering secure, welcoming, and empowering digital spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals. Together, they are working to bridge the technology gap, ensuring that essential tools and resources reach those who need them the most.
