Currently the research available around the LGBT community and technology, including research about adoption, use, trends and benefits is limited. The LGBT Technology Institute is committed to expanding this research to better LGBT communities all around the world.

Digital Access, Usage, and Experiences of the LGBTQ+ Community
LGBT Tech, in collaboration with Data for Progress, has released a comprehensive survey revealing the digital access, usage patterns, and online experiences of LGBTQ+ adults across the United States. Amid rising concerns about digital equity and inclusion, this research underscores the critical need for ensuring robust digital access and safe online spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals. The research, titled “ctrl-alt+lgbt,” illustrates the profound impact of digital connectivity on the LGBTQ+ community’s daily life, communication, health, education, and employment.
LOGGED OUT, LEFT OUT: How Online Platform Regulations and Anti-LGBTQ+ Efforts Align in the States
LGBT Tech has released a new report outlining the dangerous intersection that can exist between state-level platform regulations and anti-LGBTQ+ efforts within those states. Titled Logged Out, Left Out, we hope this report serves as both a resource and a timely reminder that digital equity is more important than ever.
PowerOn International Report 2022
In 2022, LGBT Tech piloted its first international distribution of PowerOn technology to LGBTQ+ asylum seekers globally through our partnership with Safe Place International. Through years of work and building expertise, we understand the unique uses and reliance on technology by the LGBTQ+ community.

Student Voices: LGBTQ+ Experiences in the Connected Classroom
LGBTQ+ Experiences in the Connected Classroom analyzes the concerns that arose in conversations with LGBTQ+ students regarding school technologies and privacy, including concerns about identity, parent/caregiver access to data, health information, and student safety. The report then outlines a series of recommendations and actionable steps for schools and districts to address those concerns and others.
The Role of Data Protection in safeguarding Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Information
LGBTQ+ rights are, and have always been, linked with privacy. A new report from the Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) and LGBT Tech, “The Role of Data Protection in Safeguarding Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Information” explores areas where misuse of data pertaining to an individual’s gender identity and sexual orientation can manifest harms, and suggests ways to mitigate risk to individuals and communities.

The research behind LGBT Tech's PowerOn Program
“With LGBT youth being disproportionately affected by homelessness, the effects of “Connect 4 Life” could be far-reaching.” ~Huffington PostConnect 4 Life is a first-of-it’s-kind program developed to put mobile technology into the hands of one of the LGBT communities most vulnerable populations. According to a landmark 2012 study and part of the LGBT Technology Institute’s Connect 4 Life research, nearly 40% of America’s homeless youth identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. This equates to over 650,000 LGBT youth on America’s streets at any given moment.

An LGBT Broadband Future
Given the many societal and political challenges encountered by LGBT individuals on a daily basis, Internet and broadband technologies play a critical role for the LGBT community in all aspects of life. The LGBT Technology Partnership & Institute’s newest research project, a Vision for Inclusion: An LGBT Broadband Future, released June 26, 2014, brings together a wide range of research to explore the importance of broadband technologies to the LGBT community.
